2. Experience and sound working knowledge of chemical processes and plant operation

The main segments served are the automotive, electrical and electronics, construction, medical, and sports and leisure industries.
The primary responsibility of this role, as Process Automation Lead, is to oversee Control Systems and Plant Optimization at the Bayer MaterialScience Baytown Site.
This position will manage a group of automation experts and coordinate Process Analyzer and Advanced Process Control Support. It is part of the TSM-PCT (Process Control Technology) department, which has site-wide responsibilities for control systems, electrical, instrumentation and power distribution.
The Process Automation Lead and his/her team will provide automation for best in class operation and performance of the Baytown site with focus on safe, compliant, reliable and efficient operation of control systems and plant optimization applications, as well as strategic planning in these areas for the Baytown site.
The major contributing activities will include:
. Responsible for safe, compliant and reliable operation of site-wide PCT systems, networks and applications;
. Provide Business Units with expert support for DCS and SIS systems;
. Development, maintenance and application of PCT System standards, including IT security and IP protection;
. Leadership in developing and implementing Plant Optimization initiatives such as Alarm Management, Advanced Process Control and MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems);
. Coordination with Bayer MaterialScience global Process Control Technology functions, Bayer Technology Services and other Bayer MaterialScience sites;
. Estimation and control of PCT systems and Plant Optimization cost and efficiency;
. Assurance of "owner" representation in projects - development of automation scope for capital projects, review and approval during project execution, training and start up assistance for those projects;
. Establishment, implementation and maintenance of a master plan for PCT Systems and Plan Optimization;
. Lead specification and implementation of Bayer MaterialScience "drive the car" and OTS concepts for Baytown.
The selected candidate is required to possess the following:
. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related discipline with twelve years of related experience OR Master's degree in Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related discipline with eight years of related discipline OR a Ph.D. in Engineering, Chemical Engineer or related discipline with six years of related experience;
. Experience and sound working knowledge of chemical processes and plant operation;
. Detailed functional knowledge and proven track record of success in the area of Process Automation (e.g. published papers, patents, awards, etc.);
. Leadership skills to assure his/her group's effective site-wide operation combined with demonstration of ownership and most efficient utilization of site, vendors, Bayer Technology Service and global Process Control Technology resources;
. Sound working knowledge of maintenance and engineering of analog and digital controls, instrumentation, Process Analyzer Technology, Advanced Process Control concepts, distributed and computer controlled systems;
. Strong written/verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills;
. Good business knowledge and ability to manage large work load and multiple tasks simultaneously;
. Able to make decisive, approachable, results and customer-focused decisions;
. Demonstrate self-directed and non-authoritative leadership skills.
